Sexology

Put simply, sexology is the study of human sexual life and/or relationships. There are many different areas of sexology (including: research, policy, advocacy, and education), however at FitRightHQ we offer the area of clinical therapy provided by our in-house sexologist. 

The perinatal period comes with many beautiful surprises; however, it also often comes with challenges, changes and a general upheaval of the life you once knew.

A sexologist is able to support individuals who may be experiencing challenges in their relationship, changes in sexual functioning (desire, pain, body image, or intimacy issues), whilst also supporting new mums navigating the identity shift of becoming a mother, and what that means for their sexuality. 

Couples who are experiencing fertility difficulties will often seek the help of a sexologist for a variety of reasons, including emotional support, education, sexual concerns, performance anxiety, and how to reconnect after, often, many years of fertility challenges.  

A Sexologist can also help people who have experienced trauma through childbirth, or previous sexual experiences, and will often work with individuals whose mental health is impacting their relationships and sexual functioning. 

A sexologist can see all genders, at all stages of life.

When it comes to female sexual functioning, changes are often associated with hormonal fluctuations, physiological changes, and psychosocial factors. The perinatal period, perimenopause and menopause are the most common stages of life that women may seek therapy for changes in their sexual function.
