Our Postnatal Physiotherapists truly understand the issues that can face mothers recovering from birth, and can help you feel strong, capable and symptom free as you return to the rigours of daily life and exercise.

You don't need to wait until 6 weeks

Postnatal appointments can be booked at any time - you don't need to wait for your 6-week check. If you're dealing with bladder, bowel, breast, or musculoskeletal symptoms, the sooner we see you, the sooner we can help.

Please note, however, that internal pelvic floor assessments are completed after the lochia has finished, usually around 6 weeks postpartum. Before this point, the Women's Health Physiotherapists can do external perineal assessments or trans-abdominal real time utlrasound assessments to guide their management.

Unable to make it to the clinic in person in the early postnatal period? Postnatal telehealth appointments are available, providing guidance and support from the comfort of your own home. These appointments are ideal for birth debriefing, support with early bladder, bowel or prolapse symptoms, management of perineal, vaginal or Caesarean scar pain, or individualised recovery advice - even if you are currently symptom-free.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are physiotherapy appointments at FitRight HQ covered by private health insurance?

If you have private health insurance, it is highly likely that you will receive a rebate for FitRight HQ consultations as they are both delivered by qualified physiotherapists. The amount that you get back will depend on your level of cover, and how much you have already used, so you should check your individual circumstances with your health insurance provider.

Please find the health fund codes that are routinely used below so you can check with your fund how much will be covered:

  • Initial appointment at FitRight HQ (including initial FitRight class assessments) – 500
  • Follow up appointment at FitRight HQ – 505

We have a hicaps machine so please bring your private health fund card (physical or digital on apple wallet) so that you will only pay the gap. If you forget your health fund card you will be required to pay the full appointment cost and we will email your receipt once payment has been received so that you can claim online or in person through your fund.

Telehealth consultations can be paid for over the phone at the time of your appointment or you will be emailed an invoice. Once payment is received you will be emailed your receipt so that you can claim online or in person through your fund.

What to expect at my Postnatal appointment?

Before Your Appointment

You will be sent initial intake forms on booking, please complete these as soon as possible. This information allows us to ensure that the correct appointment type has been booked and gives your physiotherapist important information prior to your appointment.

Please come to your appointment in comfortable clothing you can move in.

You don't need a referral to see us, but if you do have one, or a GP Care Plan (EPC), please bring it along to your first appointment.

Bringing your baby? We're very happy for you to do so. Feel free to bring a pram, capsule, or mat - we also have a bouncer and toys on hand if you need them.

During Your Consultation

You'll see a Women's Health Physiotherapist with extra postgraduate training in this specialty area. We offer longer consult times than the norm, because we believe you deserve to be properly listened to.

Here's how your session will unfold:

  1. A thorough conversation first. Your physiotherapist will ask about your symptoms, your health history, and what's brought you in - whether that's leaking, prolapse, abdominal muscle separation, ongoing pelvic girdle or back pain, painful sex, or wanting guidance on returning to exercise. This is your time to be heard, in as much detail as you need.

  2. An assessment tailored to you. With your consent, this may include an internal pelvic floor assessment, which helps your physiotherapist understand exactly what's happening and why. Nothing happens without your say-so, and your comfort always comes first.

  3. A plan that connects the dots. From there, your physiotherapist will put together a comprehensive, holistic plan to help you feel strong and capable as you return to daily life and exercise. If it's useful, you'll also have the option to be referred on to other FitRight practitioners or exercise classes, so all the pieces of your care fit together.

After Your Consultation

You'll leave with a clear plan and a clear next step. Follow-up appointments help you build on the progress you've made, at a pace that works for you.

Cost and Rebates

Initial Postnatal Physiotherapy consultations range from $199–$249, with follow-ups from $119–$139, depending on your physiotherapist, see our fees here. If you have private health insurance, you're likely eligible for a rebate - bring your health fund card (physical or digital) so we can process this on the spot with HICAPS. We also accept GP Care Plan (EPC) referrals.

Do you accept EPC referrals?

Yes, we do accept patients with EPC referrals. We do charge the gap between what Medicare covers and our usual consultation fees.

Please bring your EPC referral and medicare card with you to your appointment.

If you forget your private health card we will require the full payment and we will send you a receipt so that you can claim yourself.

What do I need to bring to my consultation at FitRight HQ?

Please just bring yourself! Wear comfortable clothing, and bring along with any referral letters or scans that may be relevant.
