Physiotherapy for Breastfeeding
Breastfeeding issues that mothers commonly suffer from, such as nipple damage, blocked ducts and mastitis, can be helped by physiotherapists. Low level laser therapy can help to speed up nipple damage and decrease pain, while therapeutic ultrasound can decrease inflammation in the breast tissue that occurs with mastitis.
Breast Physiotherapy appointments are offered at our Applecross clinic only at this time.

The FitRight Difference
1.
If you contact FitRight HQ and let us know that you need laser or ultrasound treatment, we will do our best to prioritise getting you an appointment within the next day or two
2.
You’ll speak to a physiotherapist who will take your history, assess you, and decide on the best treatment - including whether or not you need to be referred to the Lactation Consultants or Women’s Health GP’s who are conveniently located under the same roof at FitRight HQ.
3.
You’ll be followed up regularly (daily if needed) until the issue is resolved.

Frequently Asked Questions
We understand that often you will need to bring your baby along, especially if they may be due a feed before or after your appointment, and this is absolutely fine.
Please note, however, that for Laser treatment, due to laser safety protocols, the patient and the therapist wear safety glasses and everyone else (including babies) need to stay outside the room. Please consider bringing a friend or family member to stay with the baby in the waiting area, otherwise you may choose to leave the baby in their pram on the outside of the treatment room door with our reception team if they are onsite.
The length of the appointment depends on the area of the breast or nipple that’s been affected. Follow up appointments may be 20 or 30 minutes in length.
You do not need a referral to see anyone at FitRight HQ. If you do have a referral from another medical or allied health practitioner, please bring this along to your first appointment.
If you have private health insurance, it is highly likely that you will receive a rebate for FitRight HQ consultations as they are delivered by qualified physiotherapists. The amount that you get back will depend on your level of cover, and how much you have already used, so you should check your individual circumstances with your health insurance provider.
Please find the health fund codes that are routinely used below so you can check with your fund how much will be covered:
Initial appointment at FitRight HQ – 500
Follow up appointment at FitRight HQ – 505
We have a hicaps machine so please bring your private health fund card (physical or digital on apple wallet) so that you will only pay the gap. If you forget your health fund card you will be required to pay the full appointment cost and we will email your receipt once payment has been received so that you can claim online or in person through your fund.
Payment for consultations at FitRight HQ will be taken at the end of your appointment. We have a hicaps machine so please bring your private health fund card (physical card or digital version in your apple wallet) so you will only pay the gap.
There are car bays conveniently located directly outside our front door, which are reserved for us, the dentist and the pharmacy. If these are all taken, you can park on Ardross St in the Applecross Village, on McDonald Rd, or off Stack Lane behind our clinic. All of these options are free parking and only a short walk from FitRight HQ.
