Frequently Asked Questions
You can commence FitRight’s Baby&Me Studio classes after your baby has had their 6-week immunisations, as long as you have been given the all clear from the health professional (GP, obstetrician, midwife) looking after you. Please note you will also be required to attend a FitRight Initial Assessment before commencing classes.
If your youngest child is over 6-8 months old, you might prefer FitRight’s more advanced Studio Fitness Classes – Empower and Toddler&Me. If you would like to attend these more challenging classes when you are earlier postnatal, please note that we will need specific clearance from your specialist physiotherapist that did your FitRight assessment.
Community volunteers are usually present at Baby&Me (and Toddler&Me) classes. The volunteers can assist in caring for your babies/children in very close proximity to where you are exercising. You will be able to hear and see whether the volunteers need assistance with your little one.
Babies do not need to come to class, if you'd rather leave them with a friend or family member, you can. And if you prefer to keep your baby close by to you on a mat or in their pram, that is also completely fine.
The volunteers are lovely members of the community who have offered their time to make it easier for you to return to exercise after having a baby. All volunteers require a Working With Children Check and are up to date with their COVID-19 and Whooping Cough Vaccines before commencing volunteer work with FitRight.
Not at all. Our exercise classes are designed for women across a range of fitness levels and exercise experience. Whether you're new to exercise, returning after a break, or already regularly active, we'll help you find a class that's appropriate for you.
You don't need to be fit or strong before you start. Your physiotherapist will guide you through the exercises and can modify the weight, resistance, repetitions or difficulty to suit your current ability. As you become stronger and more confident, your exercises can be progressed to continue challenging you.
Your initial assessment allows us to understand your exercise history, goals and any health concerns and recommend the class that's right for you.
Yes. Having pelvic floor symptoms, an injury or another physical concern doesn't necessarily mean you need to avoid exercise or group classes.
Our classes are led by physiotherapists who understand women's health and can modify exercises to suit your individual needs. Your physiotherapist can adjust the exercise, resistance, range of movement or intensity to help you exercise safely and confidently while working towards your goals.
During your initial assessment, we'll discuss your symptoms, injury or health concerns and determine whether a group class is appropriate for you. We may recommend specific modifications or exercises for you to use during the class.
For some women, particularly those with more complex or significant symptoms, an acute injury or who require closer individual supervision, Clinical Exercise may be a better starting point. This provides a more personalised exercise program in a smaller setting, with exercises specifically tailored to your needs.
The goal isn't to stop you exercising - it's to find the right type and level of exercise for you and help you progress from there.
Please bring a water bottle to classes – keeping hydrated is important!
Wearing comfortable clothing such as leggings/shorts and a t-shirt are ideal to wear. You can wear bare feet, socks or exercise shoes.
Studio Classes
- Your own exercise mat (if you have one) or a towel to put down over a supplied mat
- For Baby&Me and Toddler&Me classes please bring your baby them in a pram so that the volunteers can easily assist in caring for your child. Please also bring toys for your toddler to play with
Circuit Classes
- A small towel to place on exercise equipment
- Socks to wear on equipment - grip socks are preferred and are available for purchase
Your initial assessment helps us make sure you’re starting with the right type and level of exercise for your body, goals and current stage of life. It gives your physiotherapist the opportunity to understand your health and exercise history, discuss any concerns or symptoms you may have, and identify anything that may need to be considered when exercising.
Your physiotherapist will then recommend the most appropriate class for you and provide guidance on how exercises can be modified to suit your individual needs. This is particularly important if you are pregnant, recently had a baby, are returning to exercise after a break, have pelvic floor concerns, pain or an injury, or are experiencing changes through perimenopause or menopause.
It also means you can start your classes feeling confident that the exercises are appropriate for you and that you know how to get the most out of them.
Your assessment is about getting to know you and making sure your exercise program is right for you.
Most private health funds cover physiotherapist led exercise classes if you have Physiotherapy extras cover. The rebate amount and annual limit depend on your individual policy.
